Views of CMJ - Cat gets Plastered
Sir Tim and the underprivileged
2014 Dates gone already - Speechwriting “a Triumph

Bob has only just bought the biography of the late and great Christopher Martin-Jenkins and was flattered to read the following but sad that he never got the chance to thank him.

“Most speakers, certainly not excluding myself, are guilty of plagiarism, and even ‘new’ jokes are inevitably variations of old ones. I admire those who keep coming up with their own origianl stories, often with the help of professional comedy writers. Like the always funny favourite of many a Lord’s Taverners occasion, Bob Bevan. For years he has traded on being goalkeeper for the Old Wilsonians third XI (or lower). His gravelly voice and cockney accent help, but so does his topicality. He started telling stories weaved around Bobby Moore; now it is John Terry, Kevin Pietersen or whoever is in the news.”

Not an easy gig the Federation of Plasterers and Dry Walling Contractors Awards Lunch for 2012 held in January 2013. Bob did his act and hosted the awards bringing the following response from Events Co-ordinator Maria Brooks

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your outstanding performance at the FPDC Plaisterers’ Awards 2012. The audience were really impressed and loved your sense of humour. Thank you for your brilliant performance!

“Many thanks for such a great show. We were lucky to have you”

A fund-raising dinner for the famous public school at Lancing where Sir Tim Rice (above) is an old boy and was present. Bob opened saying “It’s great to be here working for the underprivileged”  The sponsor said the evening was “Fantastic” while Development Director, Catherine Reeve, wrote
“Many thanks for speaking at our dinner last week and bringing the whole occasion to such a hilarious finale! It was wonderful to see both Tim and my father crying with laughter...a rare sight! We have had excellent feedback from all our guests about the evening and in particular for your contribution.”
and Sir Tim emailed “Cat, great turn as usual. The under privileged definitely love you”

It’s still only January but Bob has also done the Tonbridge AFC Dinner with Ray Wilkins after which Director Colin Fry said
“You went down an absolute storm. Great evening and your vast efforts were fundamental to it.”

And the Middlesex Golf Union where President Ray Andrews wrote
“You made the evening for us with your usual style and panache. All reports back were excellent.”

Finally Bob did some speechwriting for a major business figure whose Head of Communications described the delivery as
“A Triumph!”
